Paying 1.5K for a desktop computer is way cheaper than forking out 60K for a degree in game design, so I did that instead. Plus, most schools want me to have a portfolio or some kind of background in comp sci, which I don’t at the moment (high school me thought it would be a great idea to major in literature when I hated those classes the most. idk. At least I write good now). I made this blog to reflect on and keep track of my progress as I teach myself how to build games. Hopefully, at the end of it all, this’ll be a platform to showcase the work I’ve done. I’ll have a portfolio, not be in debt, and who’ll be laughing then, American capitalist schemers calling yourself grad schools??
What I want to get out of this is to make a game and say “Hah! I made a game!” It might not (probably won’t) be a good game, so I make no promises about quality at this point in time. My first attempt at trying my hand at text-based adventures was an incredibly frustrating and rewarding experience, and if that’s a rabbit hole you want to dive into, you can find it here. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and for some reason, my brain has latched onto that back-and-forth between creative and logical brain hemispheres telling me what is and isn’t possible as something I want to do with the rest of my foreseeable life. If you want to send me words of encouragement or dire warnings to turn back now or forever be lost, the best way to reach me is by carrier pigeon. Or email, if that’s something you really want to do.
